Singles Near You 2023

SINGLES NEAR YOU is a performative cyborg story for the digital age. Taking inspiration from a day job at a pay-per-minute erotic chat, where sex, identity, and work uniquely collide, this bizarre premise is the starting point for an examination of (self-)image production, consent, and the blurring of work-life boundaries online.

The work was first shown at Berliner Ringtheater for the Performing Arts Festival PAF, in the section ‘Bodies and Closeness’ in May 2023.

Pre-Submission (2024-)

PRE-SUBMISSION is an ongoing artistic research between Melanie Sien Min Lyn and an*dre neely that spans performance, video, and text. The title Pre-Submission refers to the practice of submitting travel documents
digitally before crossing the border and stands for increasing automation in the European border regime. It sums up the perfidious pact we agree to as soon as we go online: our data is collected and evaluated to train artificial intelligence, which becomes an instrument of hi-tech security and surveillance systems.

Two videos and texts were commissioned by performance, possession + automation and performingborders with support from Arts and Humanities Research Council, Arts Council England and Necessity Fund.
A performative intervention was shown at Fierce Festival in Birmingham in 2024. The project was supported by a performance residency at ausland: Berlin in 2025.

Wie Wir Wollen (Choices/Voices) 2021

In WIE WIR WOLLEN (Choices/Voices), 50 individuals come forward with their experience of terminating an unwanted pregnancy in Germany. Personal, contemplative, sprinkled with jokes and moments of outrage, these recollections provide an empowering counter-narrative to the shroud of shame and stigma surrounding abortions – and people who have them.

WIE WIR WOLLEN goes beyond the pro choice / anti choice dichotomy, critically assessing what it even means to make a free choice in a society that oppresses people based on class, race, gender and dis/ability. Which choices are available to whom and why?

WIE WIR WOLLEN premiered at the Kassel Dokfest and was nominated for the A38 prize.
